Hello! Today, I’ll be participating in my first ever blog tag – The Me + Music tag! Thank you to SJ Barnard and Esmerelda for tagging me.
RULES:
- Link back to the original (Sophie @ Me and Ink) so she can see your answers and listen to the tunes.
- For every prompt you choose to do, name 1-5 songs (you can use Sophie’s graphics).
- Have fun and play your music LOUD!

Eustace Scrubb – Sarah Sparks
I mentioned the Into The Lantern Waste album on my email list a month or two ago, and it still has been a favorite among my sisters and I. This song in particulary has been played so much, its like sitting down next to an old friend when listening to it.
I tried to change my appearance but I am not changed
I’m just tired
I tried to heal myself long before I met your gaze
At the water
I’m at your feet
Would you tear into the deep of my heart
To heal me?
Further Up, Further in – Psallos
Psallos is also a favorite in our family. They take books of the Bible and turn the whole book into an album! It’s a fun way to memorize passages of scripture. I love the melody of this one, as well as the truth.
May this God give you everything you need
To endure to the end and His promises receive
May he grant you the faith to believe
What the Son has said to us
And when the road’s grown especially hard
And you feel like your soul and your body are scarred
By the aches and pains of faith
May the Lord give you strength
To endure
When I Go To Live With God – People and Songs
The lady’s voice in this one is so good! The music paired with the lyrics make for just such a hopeful song.
Here I go to lay me down
I pray the Lord my soul to keep
I’ll wake to find myself at home
There the Lord will welcome me
And I will have all of Him
The moment I enter in
Then it will all make sense
When I go to live with God
The Blue Train – Linda Ronstadt
I have a confession to make: I used to listen to Dolly Parton non stop *hides* When I was a tween, the primary music I listened to was Johnny Cash and a band that Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, and Emmylou Harris made to record one or two albums – “The Trio”. Their songs were the soundtrack to my middle school years, and hearing one from the album always brings me back. This one is pretty much just Linda singing, but it has such a calming, *blue* feel to it.
I’m riding the blue train
Over the miles yet to cover
A ghost in a hurry to fade
I’m taking it one way to nowhere
Afraid you might be there
To find me inside this blue train

It’s Quiet Uptown -Hamilton
*no words – just distant sobbing*
If you see him in the street
Walking by her side, talking by her side, have pity
Eliza, do you like it uptown? It’s quiet uptown
He is trying to do the unimaginable
See them walking in the park, long after dark
Taking in the sights of the city
Look around, look around, Eliza
They are tryna do the unimaginable
Evermore – Beauty and the Beast
The guy who sings this has an amazing voice that conveys such deep emotion, you get chills just listening to it!
Now I know she’ll never leave me
Even as she fades from view
She will still inspire me
Be a part of everything I do
Wasting in my lonely tower
Waiting by an open door
I’ll fool myself, she’ll walk right in
And as the long, long nights begin
I’ll think of all that might have been
Waiting here for evermore
Nobody Knows – Pete’s Dragon
I feel like this song could be the movie trailer song for all of the books I’ve written and hope to write 😀 It just feels like a flannel jacket and long car rides.
Nobody knows how to say goodbye
It seems so easy ’til you try
Then the moments passed you by
Nobody knows how to say goodbye
Nobody knows how to get back home
And we set out so long ago
Search the heavens and the Earth below
Nobody knows how to get back home
On The Threshold of Eterntiy – Starry
This is the only song from this musical on the life of Vincent Van Gogh that I’ve listened to, but I hope the rest sound just as good as this one does.
A moment, a glimpse of a life
Crawling on the floor
Insanity’s the fear
But that’s what your room is for
You’re wasting, you’re wasting away
Surrounded by thoughts of decay
If someone could reverse the symptoms you always obey

Jerusalem – CityAlight
What better love than the love Christ showed us on the cross? ;D
See the king who made the sun
And the moon and shining stars
Let the soldiers hold and nail him down
So that he could save them
See him there upon the cross
Now no longer breathing
Dust that formed the watching crowds
Takes the blood of Jesus
Feel the earth is shaking now
See the veil is split in two
And he stood before the wrath of God
Shielding sinners with his blood
Compelled – People and Song
Or the love that compells us to spread the good news?
You’ve compelled us with Your compassion
To proclaim joy and liberty
You’ve compelled us to take action
To see every captive freed
You’ve compelled us with faithful mercy
To repair ruins and bring good news
You’ve compelled us for Your glory
To lead hungry hearts to You
The earth is waiting for the unveiling
Of sons and daughters, the children of God
Release the fullness of Your Spirit
On every tribe and on every tongue
Miss Simone (Sara Barielles)
Oh! You meant *that* kind of love? Alright, alright…… (ps. gotta love the imagery in those last lines of memories being like vinyl records!)
How she’d know
What a heart sounds like
In the glow of this candle
On a rooftop in the moonlight
Someday when we’re old and grey
And sifting through our yesterdays
We’ll pull that favorite memory from its sleeve
And play that song of you and me and
Miss Simone singing –

Ok. Does *anybody* remember the band One Girl Nation?? There was a cluster of girls in our church who were die hard fans for about a year, and my twin and I started listening to them as well, and needless to say we were obsessed. It died down as we got older – and that’s a good thing. I shudder just thinking about how much we sang their songs. I can still remember going into the Christian Book Store in the ‘big city’ and spending a whooping $5 for their CD. That was the biggest purchase of my tiny life thus far, and I guarded that CD with my life.
So. If you want a good cringe, look up some One Girl Nation songs 😀
Count Your Rainbows – One Girl Nation
You know the stars can’t shine without the dark
A fire can’t catch cithout a spark
Like sunshine mixed with a little bit of rain
Beauty begins right after the pain
So count your rainbows
Also, I would put all Hamilton songs on here, but we might be here for a while 🙂

Fast Car – Tracy Chapman
I love songs that tell specific stories vs. songs that could be applied to a number of situations and people. This is one of them:
You got a fast car
I got a plan to get us out of here
I been working at the convenience store
Managed to save just a little bit of money
Won’t have to drive too far
Just ‘cross the border and into the city
You and I can both get jobs
And finally see what it means to be living
Jacob – Christ Renzema
The harmonica in this one is !! I love Renzema’s interpretation through lyrics about Jacob.
And I know that I’m not right
But I’m still putting up a fight
And I know my hands can’t hold all I aim to steal
And I know that there is a cure
For this sickness my heart endures
But it’s hard to walk naked into the light
Yeah, it’s hard to walk naked into the light
Coney Island – Taylor Swift
I don’t know what it is about this song that had me in a chokehold for about a week, playing it repeatedly. It’s just another one of those story songs, you know?
Were you waiting at our old spot
In the tree line, by the gold clock?
Did I leave you hanging every single day?
Were you standing in the hallway with a big cake?
Happy birthday
Did I paint your bluest skies the darkest gray?
A universe away
And when I got into the accident
The sight that flashed before me was your face
But when I walked up to the podium
I think that I forgot to say your name

The King In All His Beauty – Sovreign Grace:
Now see the King who wears a crown
One made of shame and splinters
The sacrifice for ruined man
The substitute for sinners
As earth is stained with royal blood
And quakes with love and fury
He breathes His last and bows His head
The King in all His beauty
Society – Eddie Vedder
When you want more than you have
You think you need
And when you think more than you want
Your thoughts begin to bleed
I think I need to find a bigger place
‘Cause when you have more than you think
You need more space
Society, you’re a crazy breed
I hope you’re not lonely without me
Society, crazy indeed
I hope you’re not lonely without me
Big Black Car – Gregory Alan Iskavov
You were a phonograph, I was a kid
I sat with an ear close, just listening
I was there when the rain tapped her way down your face
You were a miracle, I was just holdin your space
Well time has a way of throwing it all in your face
The past, she is haunted, the future is laced
Heartbreak, you know, drives a big black car
Swear I was in the back seat, just minding my own
Now It’s Your Turn!
Phew, that was fun! I don’t know anyone who hasn’t been tagged already, so if you’re reading this post and would like to participate, feel free to consider yourself tagged 😀
Did you recognize any of the songs on the list? Are there any you’d be interested to listen to? Anybody else go through emarassing musical phases? Let me know in the comments – I’d love to chat about music or trade suggestions!

Somehow had a feeling you do 😉 And yes, “The Artist” is a favorite of mine! My youngest sister especially loves it because, well, she’s an artist.
